Lycklig Farm News, Origins and Ethos
Celine whelped The Fabulous Five on November 26, 2024. This was a planned TCI duel sire breeding using both of our imported Swedish dogs, Prins and Egon. Pedigrees, accomplishments, health information and short biographies for all of our dogs are located on the Our Vallhunds page. DNA paternity testing though AKC concluded that all five puppies are sired by Egon. Three puppies moved to new homes and are all doing well. Beatrix and Dolk will be staying with us in Iowa, as future show and breeding prospects. Biographies and pictures of all of our Swedish Vallhund dogs can be found on the Our Vallhunds page.
Please complete and return our Applicant Questionnaire if you are interested in a puppy from a future litter. We read every application and prioritize excellent homes. Each litter is subsidized by our personal incomes and we are extremely selective about puppy placement. We do not place puppies with nor provide stud service to commercial breeders. Our next planned litter will be in 2026.
Puppies are only placed in private homes where they will live inclusively as full family members. We offer lifetime support and will take back a dog from our program at any age, for any reason. Veterinary references are gladly provided upon request.
As puppies grew, I uploaded several videos per week to YouTube. Their two speeds are sleeping and blurry, so I focused on videos with this litter more than pictures. My public profile is: https://www.youtube.com/@elizabethhosmanek8461
Lycklig Kennel began in Iowa in 2019 after Elizabeth purchased the lovely and highly opinionated Celine, co bred by our longtime breed mentor Yvonne Slusser (Pavon Kennel, Wisconsin). Andy and I already had two companion Swedish Vallhunds from Yvonne, Skadi and Benji. Yvonne, along with Pam Abrath (Fantasi Kennel, Wisconsin) urged me to show Celine and I realized that I wanted to become a preservation breeder for Swedish Vallhunds.
We breed to Swedish standards for conformation, health and temperament. We have at most one litter per year. I utilize early neurological stimulation (ENS) until puppies open their eyes. After that time, puppies are individually handled multiple times a day and are continuously introduced to new stimuli. The puppy pen starts out in my bedroom until the puppies are a few weeks old. Once they need more space, I build a pen in our living room near all the household hustle and bustle. We observe strict biosafety rules to keep puppies healthy. Approved visitors are welcome by appointment after puppies are five weeks of age (no outside dog visitors under any circumstances). We show our dogs in AKC conformation. Most of our adult dogs are AKC champions; the rest are working towards their title.
Every puppy is paired with the best family for that puppy, considering as many factors as possible. I wait until puppies are at least seven weeks old before formally evaluating temperament and conformation for placements. When possible (weather is a big consideration in the Midwest), I take puppies to be independently evaluated by my longtime breed mentor Pam Abrath (Fantasi Kennel, Wisconsin).
Our dogs are family members and lifelong best friends. All of our dogs live in our house; our home is designed for their health, safety and happiness. They are allowed on the furniture and some choose to sleep in our beds at night.
Puppy families must sign a contract before their puppy leaves our house, outlining responsibilities for both parties. Contracts are updated for each litter and provided to families at least one week before they pick up their puppy to allow time for review and questions to be answered. We require families to follow routine vaccination and heartworm prevention protocols approved by the American Veterinary Medicine Association (AVMA). The AVMA specifically condemns titer practices and many trendy practices advanced by laypeople lacking veterinary medical training. At Lycklig Farm, we believe in science.
We only patronize pet supply stores that do not sell puppies, kittens, parrots, or any other live animal. We support independently owned pet supply stores as much as possible. We oppose cross breeding and commercial dog breeding operations.
